20CN Tower: The Staple Figure of Toronto
On the first day of Toronto week, we thought it was best to make our first stop at the CN Tower.
History:
The CN Tower is a 553.33 m-high (1,815.4 ft) Canadian concrete communications and observation tower in DowntownToronto, Ontario, Canada. It was completed in 1976, becoming the world’s tallest free-standing structure and world’s tallest tower at the time. It held both records for 34 years until the completion of Burj Khalifa and Canton Tower in 2010. It remains the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, a signature icon of Toronto’s skyline, and a symbol of Canada, attracting more than two million international visitors annually.
When first entering the CN Tower, you are greeted with a ticket counter. Ticket Prices can range from $27 to $99 depending on whether you are going solo or with a group of friends. Its best to get a family pack if you have more than 4 people tagging along.
After you pass the ticket line, the only thought in our minds were THE ELEVATOR Ride. In order to get up half Kilometer in the sky, one must take a very long elevator ride.
Prior to getting to the infamous open glass elevators, you will spiral through attractions educating you on the history of the tower and the hard work/planning it took to accomplish, including our famous Canadian Moose disguised as a Canadian.
Of course we had no choice but to go up the elevator. Instead of writing about a visual experience, we decided to use a friendly real video of the ride up.
After Getting to the top panoramic floor of the Tower, there are a ton of things to do (some may cost a bit extra) such as:
1. LookOut: In 58 seconds you will find yourself at a height of 346m (1,136’). The LookOut level offers breathtaking views and Horizons Restaurant. Also located on this level is one of many souvenir photo opportunities.
All Photos provided by the CN Tower.
2. GlassFloor
3. SkyPod
To get here, take the elevators to the main observation level,
then transfer to the special SkyPod elevator and soar to another
amazing 33 storeys.
Now you’re at the 447 metre (1465 ft.) level, and from here you
will see a an awe-inspiring 360 degree unobstructed view of Toronto,
Lake Ontario, and surrounding region.
Visibility is over 160 kilometres (one hundred miles), and on a clear day
it’s not unusual to see Niagara Falls or Rochester, New York.
A separate ticket is required in addition to a Tower Experience ticket. Tickets to SkyPod are available at the base of the CN Tower or on the LookOut Level.
4. EdgeWalk
5. 360 Restaurant
Clearly our plan was not to go out on the EdgeWalk even though the price was fair for the daring thrill. However, for those who are looking for a thrill and walk on the edge of life, then this is certainly for you. So visit the CN Tower, it’s definitely worth the memories.
Now time to take the elevator back down!
