5 Steps to Becoming a Successful Travel Blogger in 2013

I’m not a travel expert in fact I’m exactly the opposite, however, my goal is to have one of the best travel blog sites  in 2013. This is not going to be a 5,000 word rambling article to get Facebook likes. I’m going to share the 5 steps that I plan on taking in 2013 to achieve my goals!

5 steps of “becoming a successful travel blogger in 2013”?

1“Making your mind up!”

You have already achieved this goal! You know that you want to write travel blogs.

2“Take the technical plunge!”

Go to one of the many domain registration sites and purchase a dot.com! If you are not a web or mobile application developer then this is your best bet! Once you have done that you’ll need to set up hosting on a monthly or yearly fee. You do not need to be web savvy to get your site up and running within 24 hours. Most hosting providers already have blogging platforms such as WordPress Joomla or Drupal etc…The world is moving at a high speed and social networks are getting bigger and bigger by the day. All it takes is 1 successful blog to have your work go viral!

3“Start Locally”

Do not be intimidated by the mega blog sites and other bloggers traveling all over the world! Believe me, they started where we are. Not to worry we will get there soon, however,  first conquer your domain (home). Do you go to a local bar? Do you have a local B&B or restaurant or hostel or hotel or amusement park that you can write about? Local business owners love the attention and love feeling important! Who doesn’t want a free exposure?

4“Diversify and be Unique”

This is an important step. If this is something you really want to do, your goal should be to write 2-3 articles a week. These articles should be short, sweet and right to the point. With the amount of distractions out there, its tough to get 30 seconds of attention these days. Be sure your material is unique and will get the attention of your peers. So before you start writing ask yourself this question “Would I even search for, or read an blog like this?”

5“Network and Engage”

You probably already have a Facebook account, from there you can create a Fan Page. Also, get on twitter because the travel network is massive! Get to know your local travel groups and meet other travel bloggers! They share the same passion and they will definitely have some real good advice for you!

Final thoughts:

The goal is to engage and bring excitement to your work by giving readers the opportunity to live vicariously through your travels! Once you start local, you will definitely get the attention of global businesses wanting you to blog about their establishment(s).

Good luck! and Happy New Year!
