A Few Things Jamaicans Love…that you should know!
We just wrote a
blog not too long ago about Northeast Americans destined for a lot and sun in the month of December and thought it was only appropriate to follow up with a comical yet useful guide (or tips) on your favorite Caribbean people… Jamaicans!
Jamaica, is the 4th largest island nation of the Greater Antilles, 234 kilometers in length, up to 80 kilometers in width, and 10,990 square kilometers in area.. In between these distances live a great nation people who have raised the worlds fastest man and pioneered a culture that has been played, sung and danced to in every home, bar, club…(you get the point) in the world.
We came across this quirky site Things Jamaicans Love and felt it was our civil duty to share a thing or two of what Jamaicans actually love. This guide will definitely give you an idea of the type of local culture you are about to embark on. Come on, you know that iDidGo always thinks of our community first!
The site is rich of things that Jamaicans like and we’ve selected one that has caught our eyes and we feel that everyone can relate too, Jamaica or from wherever!…Remember what we said before?..Tip 4, the Food! The secret weapon!:)
Fried Chicken with Curry/Stew Beef/Ox-Tail Gravy
“Sell me two small fry chicken! One leg an’ thigh, curry gravy! One breas’ an’ wing, food an’ stew beef gravy! If you’ve never heard these or similar words then you’ve never ordered an authentic Jamaican lunch in an authentic Jamaican cook shop… and you have my sympathies. For the uninitiated, let me translate. What was being requested was two small fried chicken lunches, and instead of being accompanied with chicken gravy, one was to be smothered in curry chicken gravy and the other in stew beef gravy.
Fried Chicken with curry gravy?! You may be wondering what would motivate a person to place such a strange order. Well, the first thing you should know is that fried chicken, stew beef and curry goat/chicken are perennial lunch time favourites in any Jamaican restaurant/cook shop.
