25Things to do in Malaga
10) Go and see a bullfight…
Ole! It’s not for the faint hearted but Malaga is in the heart of bullfighting country. Most events happen on weekends at the prominent ‘Malagueta Bullring’ in the city centre. The season runs from April-September.
9) Gibraltar for the day…
A couple of hours drive down the coast will take you to Gibraltar. Known as the ‘Rock’ and still under British territory. Oh, and a word of caution, it may be British territory but they still drive on the right side of the road!
8) Extreme Quad tour…
Don’t bother putting on the suntan lotion for this one because you’re going to get caked in mud. Quad bike outings will take you off the beaten track through woodland, rough terrain and riverbanks but it’s all in good fun and beginners are welcome. For details see Adventure Sports Holidays.
7) The historic city of Ronda…
This beautiful idyllic town can be found in the mountains to the northwest side of the province of Malaga. If you like postcard views and don’t sweat heights Ronda is worth a visit. And you’d be hard pressed to find better tapas in Spain.
6) The Picasso Museum…
A visit to Malaga wouldn’t be complete without a peek inside the former home of Spanish artist Picasso at Plaza de la Merced. Here you can find original works of Picasso and other exceptional artists.
5) Visit the ancient Alcazaba…
Once you’ve seen one old fortress you’ve seen them all – right? Wrong! This is arguably the most important historic monument in Malaga and well worth a look. The fortress was first built in the 8th century and offers fantastic views of the city. Don’t forget your camera.
4) Skydiving in Malaga…
Three! Two! One! Juuuump! Experience the ultimate adrenaline rush and enjoy Malaga’s spectacular mountains and beaches from 15,000 feet with a tandem skydive. For more information check out Skydive Spain.
3) Get a hole in one – (if you’re lucky)…
Malaga is among the best places in Europe to play golf. You’ll find over 50 courses in the area ranging from world championship courses such as Valderrma and San Roque to other courses where you can learn to play. A good place to start looking is Golf Malaga.
2) Puerto Banus aka ‘millionaires playground’…
If you want to see how the other half live then head down to swanky Puerto Banus. The harbour views are as spectacular as the luxurious yachts moored in front of the cafes and bars. Maybe you’ll see a celebrity or two!
1) The Caves of Nerja…
Lying just 4 km’s east of Nerja in the slopes of the Sierra Almijara Mountains you’ll discover one of Europe’s finest cave structures. Incredibly, this ancient geological wonder was only discovered fifty years ago when a group of small boys were playing nearby.
