Top 10 Countries with Longest Life Expectancy: Time To Move!

Exert from Yahoo – Have you ever wondered which countries average the longest life expectancy? Its not just about who is living the longest lives, but in which countries you can expect to have the greatest quality of life. Instead of just a typical top ten list, I wanted to find out the reasons beyond each country’s long life spans.

10. Italy

In 2011, the average life expectancy in Italy is 81.77 years. This is the tenth highest average life span out of all countries in the world. In theMarche region of Italy, inhabitants have the highest longevity. Their secret seems to be a slow-paced lifestyle and an aversion to the clock. The region is also known for its fresh air and good food, with fresh fish and good local produce a common staple. Though the people of le Marche are relaxed, it doesn’t mean they sit on the couch all day. They have an active social scene and a deep involvement with extended family. It probably doesn’t hurt to have access to all that wonderful Sangiovese wine.

9. Australia

Australians have a longer life expectancy than Americans, at an average 81.81 years, as their health care system is universally accessible. They have access to better care and better medicines. In addition, Australians smoking rates have declined due to an excellent public health campaign.

8. Hong Kong

Despite the pollution, Hong Kong boasts one of the highest life expectancies in the world with an average life span of 82.2 years. Why? They eat to keep healthy and live long, and exercise is part of their daily lives. Thousands of residents can be seen practicing Tai Chi in the parks and on the beaches. Exercise and social interaction are woven into the Chinese culture. Chinese Medicine and drinking herbal tea are also behind their long lives.

7. Singapore

The main factor behind Singapore’s longer than average life expectancy of 82.24, is their healthcare system. When their government recognized the booming elderly population in the 1980’s they planned accordingly with excellent healthcare systems for the elderly, and also improved the general healthcare system. Singapore is also one of the more prosperous nations.

6. Guernsey

The island of Guernsey is located in the English Channel. The main reason for the long life expectancy here is that the country is extremely wealthy. People here have access to the best health care and nutrition.

5. Japan

The Japanese diet of fresh fish and vegetables is certainly a big factor in their long lives with an average life expectancy of 82.6 years, but one of the main reasons may be their ability to stay calm and to connect with their inner mind. The Japanese are also much less reliant on their cars and tend to do a lot of walking. I think as Americans we can learn a lot from the Japanese culture.

4. Andorra

Andorra is located in the rugged mountains of the eastern Pyrenees between Spain and France. Plenty of exercise and clean, fresh air are just part of the reasons for Andorrans’ long life spans. Their diet consists of lean meats, fresh vegetables and olive oils, and Andorra’s world class healthcare are also big factors. The country has had 700 years of peace, and their secret may be their low stress levels.

3. San Marino

San Marino is the world’s oldest republic, and Europe’s third smallest state. They rank number three in the world with a life expectancy of an average 83 years. In San Marino, citizens have access to high-level healthcare from the time they are born until death. San Marino also has the world’s lowest child mortality rate.

2. Macau

Macau boasts the second highest life expectancy in the world at 84.38 years. Macau is a former Portuguese settlement that is located about 35 miles west of Hong Kong. Its strong economy has enabled the country to invest in an excellent healthcare system that is available to all Macanese people.

1. Monaco

Monaco is the world’s second smallest country. It is a very rich country, and its citizens have access to the best healthcare. Residents of Monaco typically eat a Mediterranean diet and live in a peaceful, stress-free environment. The life span of an average citizen of Monaco is a long 89 years.
