65 Ways to Avoid Arguing on Your Next Holiday
Believe it or not after making the efforts of convincing your not-so convincible friends to travel this year you will still be left with the daunting tasks of avoiding arguments while on your trip.
Many of us who have traveled in a large group (or just another person) understand how difficult it can be. Everyone has a unique personality, and handles situations differently. A simple action made by one individual can set off an entire group, creating tension that can potentially last the entire trip and ultimately end friendships.
There are many articles out there that provide the top reasons why people argue while on vacation. Instead of doing our version of why and what people argue about on vacation, we’re going to provide you with 5 ways to completely avoid arguing on your next trip, making it a peaceful and joyful vacation!
1. Group Fund: The number one reason why many people argue on vacation is because of money and surprise cost of activities. To avoid arguing over money, prior to getting to the destination be sure to create a group fund where all cost on your itinerary are covered. Whatever it is, put it on a list and make sure the costs are covered!
2. One Activity Per Individual: The very last thing you want to do when traveling to foreign land is to leave a friend behind or allow them to go sight see on their own. This action will definitely create tension and someone will never get over the fact that they were left alone, or behind. To avoid this issue, it’s important that prior to getting a destination allow everyone in the group to add one thing on the agenda that they want to do. Remember, everyone is different. As fun as the beach is, not everyone wants to bake in the sun all day. Doesn’t matter what it is! Support one another and go!
3. Day to Day Group Leader: The problem with group travel is that there are no real leaders. No one wants to be the person to lead the group, because there is always one person that wants to counter any authority. So by default there will always be a push and pull tension within a group. To avoid this, prior to getting to the destination make sure to set a group leader per day. If it’s only 2 of you going for 1 week, switch leadership roles per day.
4. Avoid Expensive Activities: When looking to get more bang for your bucks, it’s best to avoid all things expensive. This includes expensive meals, tours, clubs, accommodation and so forth. Remember it is not about you, it’s about the group.
5. Let the Group Decide: We know that life is unpredictable and sticking to a script is not ideal in many cases. Particularly when in foreign land unexpected events will happen and new doors will open up. Therefore, when deciding to eliminate or add an activity from the list make sure to decide together as a group and not allow one individuals selfish drive to do so. What if the new activity becomes less satisfying and more of a disappointment? With the group deciding together there will be no arguments because it was a group decision!
